Dr. Margarita Correa: The Dentist Who Sees the Whole Person

In Frisco, Texas, a city known for its rapid growth, diversity, and forward-thinking approach to healthcare, Dr. Margarita Correa has built a dental practice that feels deeply personal. For many patients, Prisma Dental is not just where they go for treatment, but where they feel understood, cared for, and genuinely listened to.

Dr. Correa, the founder of Prisma Dental, believes that dentistry should be about more than procedures. It should support how people breathe, sleep, develop, and function in their daily lives. That belief has shaped a practice grounded in empathy, trust, and a comprehensive view of health, one that serves families, children, professionals, and elite athletes alike.

For patients who arrive feeling anxious or hesitant, her approach often changes their perception of what dental care can be. The environment is calm, welcoming, and intentional. Dentistry here begins not with a diagnosis, but with a conversation.

From Colombia to the United States

Dr. Correa’s professional journey began in Medellín, Colombia, where she earned her first dental degree in 1988 from the Instituto de Ciencias de la Salud. She spent more than a decade practicing as an independent general dentist, building a strong clinical foundation while pursuing extensive continuing education in orthodontic techniques, restorative care, and emerging treatment approaches.

Her decision to move to the United States marked a defining turning point. Rather than relying on her established career, Dr. Correa chose to start over, returning to dental school at Loma Linda University in California. In 2007, she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in the United States, a process that required perseverance, adaptability, and a deep commitment to growth.

That experience reshaped how she views both dentistry and people. Starting again taught her humility, patience, and the importance of meeting patients where they are, without assumptions.

Later that year, she relocated to Texas and opened her practice in Frisco, drawn to the city’s diversity, warmth, and sense of community. Prisma Dental officially opened in 2009, founded on a simple but powerful idea: dentistry should enhance quality of life, not just address symptoms.

A Practice Built on Trust and Ethics

Prisma Dental is a bilingual, family-oriented practice that welcomes patients as young as six months old and supports them through every stage of life. While the practice offers comprehensive general dentistry, orthodontics, cosmetic, and surgical treatments, Dr. Correa’s true distinction lies in how she approaches care.

Patients are treated as individuals, not cases. Treatment plans are personalized, conservative, and designed to preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible. Dr. Correa believes strongly in ethical dentistry, recommending only what patients truly need, never unnecessary treatment.

Communication is central to the experience. Patients are encouraged to ask questions, understand their options, and feel confident in their care. For many families, this transparency is what builds lasting trust.

Functional Dentistry and Airway Health

One of the most defining aspects of Dr. Correa’s philosophy is functional dentistry. Rather than viewing oral health in isolation, she evaluates how dental structures influence breathing, sleep quality, posture, muscle balance, and daily energy.

These airway-focused and myofunctional evaluations are not limited to children alone. Dr. Correa works with patients of all ages, from young children to adults, addressing mouth breathing, sleep disruption, teeth grinding, fatigue, and other functional concerns that affect overall health and daily performance.
Over time, she noticed patterns often overlooked in traditional care. Chronic fatigue, disrupted sleep, teeth grinding, mouth breathing, difficulty concentrating, and even behavioral concerns in children frequently have an underlying airway or functional component.

Using advanced imaging technology and comprehensive evaluations, Dr. Correa identifies these issues early. By addressing jaw position, tongue function, and breathing patterns, she helps patients uncover root causes rather than simply managing symptoms.

Pediatric Focus and Preventive Care

Pediatric airway and myofunctional care has become one of the most meaningful areas of Dr. Correa’s work. Breathing disorders in children can present as snoring, restless sleep, hyperactivity, attention challenges, or developmental concerns that are often misattributed or overlooked.

Dr. Correa emphasizes early evaluation during critical growth stages. Proper nasal breathing and tongue posture play an essential role in healthy jaw development, facial growth, and cognitive function. Addressing these factors early can reduce the need for more invasive interventions later in life.

Parents often report noticeable improvements in their children’s focus, sleep quality, and overall wellbeing, reinforcing Dr. Correa’s belief that prevention is one of the most powerful tools in healthcare.

Comprehensive and Technologically Advanced Care

Orthodontic care at Prisma Dental is approached with function in mind, not just aesthetics. Proper alignment supports airway health, balanced muscle function, and long-term stability. The practice offers both traditional braces and clear aligners, with treatment plans tailored to each patient’s developmental and functional needs.

In addition to airway and orthodontic care, Prisma Dental provides a full range of surgical services, including wisdom teeth extractions. Many patients are surprised to learn that these procedures are performed in-house, allowing for continuity of care and a more comfortable, coordinated treatment experience.

When surgical or restorative intervention is necessary, including implants, extractions, corrective procedures, and wisdom teeth removal, it is approached with precision and care. Laser dentistry further enhances patient comfort, allowing for minimally invasive treatments that often reduce pain, bleeding, and recovery time.

Every decision is guided by a long-term perspective. The goal is not quick fixes, but sustainable health.

Sports Dentistry and High Performance

Dr. Correa’s holistic approach eventually drew the attention of professional athletes, whose heightened physical awareness made them especially sensitive to functional imbalances. Through her work with Major League Soccer players, she observed firsthand how oral inflammation, misalignment, and airway restriction could affect balance, endurance, and recovery.

Her success led to her appointment as the official dentist of FC Dallas, where she worked closely with players, coaches, and technical staff, particularly during preseason periods. The focus was proactive care, functional balance, and injury prevention, rather than reactive treatment.

For Dr. Correa, sports dentistry was not a departure from her philosophy, but confirmation of it. If functional dentistry could support performance at the highest level, it could also improve everyday life for families and individuals.

Leadership, Education, and Community Impact

With more than three decades of experience, Dr. Correa remains deeply committed to continuing education. She has completed extensive postgraduate training in orthodontics, implants, cosmetic dentistry, and sports dentistry, including a year-long implant externship through Dental XP and the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

She serves on the governing committee of the Academy for Sports Dentistry and maintains affiliations with international professional organizations. Despite her credentials, patients often describe her as warm, approachable, and deeply invested in their wellbeing.

Beyond the practice, Dr. Correa is actively involved in community outreach, with a focus on expanding access to care and education.

A Practice Centered on the Whole Person

Today, Prisma Dental reflects the full arc of Dr. Margarita Correa’s journey: global in perspective, grounded in family care, and shaped by functional and performance-based principles.

In Frisco, Texas, where families seek providers they can trust long term, Dr. Correa stands out not because she offers more services, but because she offers deeper care. Patients trust her with their children, their health, and their confidence, knowing they are seen as whole people.

Her story is ultimately about connection. Between science and compassion. Between prevention and performance. And between a dentist who truly listens and the families she serves.
