Your toothbrush does quite a bit for your oral and overall health. It keeps your teeth healthy so they chew your food, which allows you to digest it and stay energized. Your teeth also help maintain your facial structure. You owe it to your teeth to give them the best care possible. Doing that starts with the daily act of brushing your teeth. Are you getting the most out of your toothbrush? There may be room to improve your brushing. Here are 3 things you should know about your toothbrush.

You Don’t Need To Brush Too Hard

Brushing too hard can do untold damage to your gum tissue and wear down your enamel, actually causing you to become more susceptible to gum disease and cavities. Using a firm yet gentle brushing motion will yield you the best results.

Your Toothbrush Needs To Be Replaced Regularly

If the bristles on your toothbrush have become broken and frayed, you need to replace your toothbrush. Using a toothbrush that is in this state does nothing to clean your teeth. Replace them at least every three months, or whenever the bristles become frayed, with a toothbrush that has the ADA seal of approval.

You Should Brush Your Teeth For At Least 2 Minutes

Over time, you might begin to feel like you are brushing every inch of your smile after just a moment or two. You couldn’t be more wrong. You may also begin to rush through brushing because you are in a hurry to get somewhere. Be sure to set aside time each and every day, at least twice a day, to get the most out of your brushing. It helps to time yourself while you brush. Start an alarm on your phone or play a song you like to make it fun.
